La Londonienne Claire Martin fait l'unanimité des amateurs de jazz vocal de les plus tâtillons, notamment pour l'originalité de son repertoire entre raretés de l'american songbook et reprises pop. Avec "Modern Art" (4), elle declare se positionner dans le XXI siécle à travers un matériel emprunté à Esbjörn Svensson, Joshua Redman, Rebekka Bakken et Wolfgang Mutshpiel, Michael Franks ou Donal Fagen. Elle y met toüte son autorité vocale avec un orchestre compact et puisamment cuivré, qui se fait funk dans l'unique standard (signé Richard Rogers), mais, à l'exception du formidable Modern Art signé de sa plume, elle paraît finalement plus datée  qu'elle ne l'a éte par le passé, dans des repertoires moins foncièrement branches.
