The Scottish-born pianist Andrew Johnston has performed as chamber musician and soloist in Britain and abroad, in repertory including the concertos of Tchaikovsky (No. 1), Grieg and Beethoven (No. 3, in Kiev).

Johnston gained a master’s degree in musicology in 2006 from the University of Edinburgh, and has studied with Norma Fisher, Berndt Goetzke, Murray McLachlan and David Wilde. In 2007 he gave a recital and masterclass in Latvia as part of a course on piano pedagogy, and in 2009 and 2010 he was on the faculty of the Chetham’s International Piano Summer School. Johnston appears regularly with such ensembles as the Edinburgh Quartet, Rose Street Quartet, Daniel’s Beard and the Calton Consort, and in 2012 played Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Edinburgh Charity Orchestra. He has performed Liszt’s Sonata in B minor at the Cathedral of the Isles, and toured extensively with the viola player Jessica Beeston as the Lothians Duo. Engagements for 2015 include the Scottish composer Erik Chisholm’s ‘Van Riebeek’ Concerto.
