Brian Brooks combines the roles of Violinist and musicologist, bringing them together in his research into the emergence of the violin as a solo instrument in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. His broad range of interests have led him to study mathematics at Cambridge and to get his doctorate in musicology at Cornell, taking in along the way violin study with the legendary Szymon Goldberg. He plays a 1665 Cremonese violin by Nicolo Amati.
