Galina Gorchakova is an outstanding interpreter of Italian and Russian repertoire. After her highly acclaimed recital debut in the West at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1994, she has pursued a busy recital career in Europe, North and South America, Canada, Australia and the Far East, and has given recitals in such distinguished venues as the Wigmore Hall, London, the Teatro alla Scala, Milan, the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, the Konzerthaus, Vienna, Alice Tully Hall, New York, and also at numerous festivals including the Sydney Festival and the Mikkeli Festival, Finland. She has sung in concert with many distinguished conductors, including Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Antonio Pappano and Valery Gergiev and at venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican, London, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, La Monnaie, Brussels and at the Hong Kong Festival.
Recordings on the Philips Classics label include Kirov productions of Borodin PRINCE IGOR, Prokofiev FIERY ANGEL (audio and video), Glinka RUSLAN AND LUDMILLA, Tchaikovsky IOLANTA, Verdi LA FORZA DEL DESTINO and Rimski-Korsakov MAID OF PSKOV and THE LEGEND OF THE INVISIBLE CITY OF KITEZH. Miss Gorchakova has also recorded a solo operatic CD of 'Verdi and Tchaikovsky Arias', all conducted by Valery Gergiev. She has recorded Verdi DON CARLO under Sir Bernard Haitink; a Russian recital album; and also excerpts from TOSCA and MANON LESCAUT with Neil Shicoff and the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale, Florence, under Seiji Ozawa, for Philips Classics. Galina Gorchakova has recently made a recording of verismo arias for Delos Records, conducted by Constantine Orbelian.
Galina Gorchakova has also sung the title role in NORMA with the San Diego Opera; appeared as Santuzza CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA at the Opera Festival of Bergen; Lisa PIQUE DAME with the Bavarian State Opera, Munich and the Staatsoper unter den Linden with Daniel Barenboim; TOSCA at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma a with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta; Leonora IL TROVATORE with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland in Dublin; and Santuzza at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with the Residentie Orchestra. She also appeared in recital at London's Wigmore Hall and sang Rachmaninov The Bells with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Jukka-Pekka Saraste at London's Barbican Centre.
