    Biography

The British clarinettist Pete Furniss has played with many of the UK’s leading ensembles and orchestras and is a dedicated improviser and educator. As well as being an active contemporary and chamber-music performer, he gives solo electro-instrumental concerts internationally, including collaborations with Martin Parker, Richard Dudas and Alex Harker. His continuing research into live electronic performance explores the relationships between human presences, machine intervention and wider questions of liveness, agency and perception. As an improviser, Furniss is a member of edimpro, Not So Silent Movies and Impropera, and he regularly appears with Showstopper! The Improvised Musical. He has written for, directed and assisted on education and community projects with the DaCapo Foundation, Love Music, SCO Vibe and Tinderbox Orchestra.

Furniss’s recordings include Time Pieces: American music for clarinet & piano (Clarinet Classics), Samaagam (with members of the SCO and sarod master Amjad Ali Khan), Martin Parker’s gruntCount (sumtone) and a solo album due for release in 2015.
