Rumon Gamba

Rumon Gamba

Rumon Gamba is an English born conductor who has worked with such prominent orchestras as Orquesta Nacionales de Espana, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra and more.

Born in 1972 in England, Rumon Gamba studied music at Durham University before studying conducting with Colin Metters, George Hurst and Sir Colin Davis at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he is now an associate. He held the position of chief conductor and music director of Iceland Symphony Orchestra between 2002 and 2010 and was, in March 2011, named chief conductor of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra.

Gamba has recorded for Chandos a number of times previously, most notably in their film music series where he worked alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He now records exclusively with Chandos.

Gamba also conducts late night concerts in order to bring new classical music to young adults, an endeavour which has proven particuarly successful.

The Independent had the following to say of Gamba's conducting during his Opera debut at the National Opera's 'Candide':

'Rumon Gamba doe she sensational score proud, right through to that final. Glorious anthem of unfettered optimism'
