Artaxerxes is Disc of the Month
16 January 2011
Another first for Linn Records, we are delighted that Artaxerxes by The Classical Opera Company has been chosen as BBC's Classics Unwrapped Disc of the Month, just ahead of the album launch on Monday 24 January 2011.
On Sunday 16 January the broadcaster Jamie MacDougall chose The Classical Opera Company's "remarkable reconstruction" of the rediscovered opera by Thomas Arne as his Disc of the Month. During the programme, MacDougall talks with Ian Page, conductor of The Classical Opera Company about the rediscovery of this hughly popular opera from the 1700s whilst playing excerpts from Artaxerxes. Throughout the review, MacDougall explains why he has chosen Artaxerxes as his choice for Disc of the Month, including praising the "plenty of gorgeous singing from the entire cast" and even admitting that "I for one, have had a very hard time telling the difference from Arne's original music and the bits Ian and Duncan filled in" on this "fantastic new recording."
Released to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Thomas Arne, the composer of 'Rule, Britannia!', The Classical Opera Company presents the first complete recording of Artaxerxes, which is available on Monday 24 January 2011. This recording will be available to download at Studio Master Quality (192kHz / 88.2kHz), CD Quality or MP3 or buy on double SACD.
