BBC Music Awards Shortlist

20 March 2012

BBC Award nominee

It's less than a month to go until the winners of this year's BBC Music Magazine Awards are announced.  The awards jury has selected the recordings they consider to be the very best of 2011, among them three titles available in Studio Master quality from Linn:

Firstly, on the Linn label, is ‘Twelve Sonatas in Three Parts' by Retrospect Trio, which is shortlisted in the Chamber category. The awards jury says... ‘The Retrospect Trio have clearly given great thought to their performances - the part writing has an enticing clarity, and it's all imbued with so much irresistible energy.'

The Orchestral category sees Chandos pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet shortlisted for his concertos disc of ‘Debussy, Ravel & Massenet' with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Yan Pascal Tortelier.  The jury says... ‘A dazzling palette of colours; magical tone and impeccable phrasing; sensitivity to every mood combined with an unerring instinct for Ravel's finely-turned forms.'

Benjamin Grosvenor has been shortlisted in the Instrumental category for his Decca debut, ‘Chopin, Liszt, Ravel', which makes him the youngest ever nominated artist. The jury says... ‘It's astonishing to think that Grosvenor is still only 19 yet he can produce performances of such maturity and finesse.'
