Dunedin Consort announce second Handel recording

15 August 2008

The popular Dunedin Consort and Players are back with a new recording of Handel's Acis and Galatea, which is due for release in November 2008.  This is their second Handel recording and follows their hugely successful 1742 version of Messiah, which earned the group a Gramophone Award for "Best Baroque Vocal Album" in 2007.

Acis and Galatea sees director John Butt reunite some of the soloists from Messiah and the equally well-received Bach Matthew Passion.  The soloists are

Susan Hamilton - Galatea
Nicholas Mulroy - Acis
Thomas Hobbs - Damon
Nicholas Hurndall Smith - Coridon
Matthew Brook - Polyphemus

The Consort are always keen to highlight unusual but authentic recording versions of well-known works and Acis and Galatea is no exception.  The Consort have recorded the Original Cannons Performing Version from 1718.  John Butt shares his detailed historical knowledge in the informative booklet notes, which will prove a very interesting read for any Handel afficiandos.

Look out for more information about this highly anticipated recording soon...
