The Edinburgh International Festival is the UK's biggest festival attracting artists from all across the world. Last years Festival saw some fantastic performances by Linn Records' artists and the 2007 calendar promises to be equally stunning. The Festival runs from the 10th of August to the 2nd of September.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra have a busy Festival this year as they are performing at five different concerts, including the finale Bank of Scotland Fireworks Concert on Sunday 2nd September.
On Sunday 12th August the SCO are accompanying a concert performance of Vivaldi's rarely performed opera, Orlando furioso at the Usher Hall.
Haydn's Creation is the programme for their second concert on Monday 20th August. Conductor Roger Norrington, a specialist in this repertoire, is joined by a classic line up of soloists for this celebrated oratorio.
Andreas Scholl is the soloist for their concert on Friday 24th August in a performance of Vivaldi's solo motet Stabat Mater.
Continuing the vocal theme, the SCO accompany a concert performance of the first operatic masterpiece written in English, Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas on Sunday 26th August 2007.
Dame Gillian Weir
Festival-goers will be treated to a rare performance of the Poulenc Organ Concerto by acclaimed organist Dame Gillian Weir. Dame Gillian recorded this fantastic work with the ECO for Linn in 2001 with the album garnering many accolades. This performance is part of the "Celebration of Francis Poulenc" programme at the Usher Hall on Saturday 1st September.
Royal Scottish National Orchestra
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra will provide the orchestral support for Dame Gillian's performance and are also performing with conductor Neeme Jarvi on Saturday 11th August at the Usher Hall. The programme includes Sibelius' dark and foreboding fourth symphony and de Falla's exciting and lively ballet suite The Three Cornered Hat.
The Hebrides Ensemble
The Hebrides Ensemble, who delighted music-lovers with their 2006 album "Songs of Courtship" will be performing with Festival favourite Jane Irwin. The performance, at the Queen's Hall on Saturday 11th August, will feature works by Mahler, Janacek and Osborne.
Concerto Caledonia and William Carter
Concerto Caledonia and William Carter are appearing with The Tiger Lillies, a cult London vaudeville trio, on Saturday 25th August at the Usher Hall. The concert, entitled "A Tribute (of sorts) to Monteverdi", is a unique perspective of Monteverdi's music from upside down and sideways!
