Midem Classical Award nomination

'Songs of Muriel Herbert' by Ailish Tynan, James Gilchrist and David Owen Norris (CKD 335) has been nominated for a Midem Classical Award 2010!  The recording, which has been nominated in the 'First Recording' category, features many premiere recordings of songs by the twentieth century English composer.

The Midem Classical Awards will be presented at a gala event at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on Tuesday 26th January.  The winners will be revealed by the Canadian mezzo Marie-Nicole Lemieux and Gramophone Magazine's editor-in-chief James Jolly.

It is no surprise that this lovely collection has been nominated for an award.  It received widespread acclaim from across the media:

  • "Herbert's music deserves its place alongside the more famous names of the time." Gramophone
  • "Tynan, Gilchrist and Norris bring her beautiful songs back to life with ardour and dedication. Highly recommended." 5 starsClassic FM Magazine

  • "Ailish Tynan and James Gilchrist sing with open-hearted commitment. Steeped in the English song tradition of the early 20th century, they grow on you with each listening." The Observer

Linn artists have triumphed at the previous two Midem Classical Award ceremonies.  'Mozart Symphonies 38-41' won the Symphonic Works Award in 2009 and 'Messiah (Dublin Version, 1742)' won the Baroque Music Award in 2008.  Good luck to Ailish, James and David!
