2008 BBC Jazz Award Nominations for Linn Artists

21 May 2008

Arnie Somogyi's Ambulance and Ian Shaw are among four artists on Linn Records to be nominated for the prestigious BBC Jazz Awards 2008. Tommy Smith and Ray Gelato are among the other contenders across two separate categories.

The response to the album "Accident and Insurgency" by Arnie Somogyi's Ambulance has been nothing short of sensational with reviewers and broadcasters raving about it and no end of positive feedback from customers. It was launched in February 2008 with a sell-out UK tour - the live dates continue at various festivals as the year progresses.

Now, following a nomination for the 2008 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, it is shortlisted for the BBC Jazz Awards 2008 - Album of the Year. Other nominees include releases by Gwilym Simcock, Empirical, The Blessing, Simon Spillett and Guy Barker. Click here to make your vote count...

Ian Shaw will have a chance to retain his 2007 Best Vocalist Award as he vies for his third title in total. His new album Lifejacket has received critical acclaim and his live shows are close to legendary.

Meanwhile, two Linn artists of old are nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Heart of Jazz Award. They are Scottish tenor saxophonist Tommy Smith and popular saxophonist and singer Ray Gelato. They will compete with another favourite on the label Guy Barker, who has participated on numerous releases by the likes of previous winners Claire Martin and Ian Shaw. Click here to vote!

Nominations for further categories such as Best Vocalist are yet to be announced.
