Barb Jungr Wins 2008 New York Nightlife Award

Barb Jungr has received the New York-based Nightlife Award 2008 for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist.

The awards celebrate the best in New York cabaret, comedy and jazz and winners were announced on January 9, 2008.  The annual awards ceremony, which boasts no acceptance speeches, just performances, will be held Jan. 28 at Town Hall in Manhattan.

These awards see more than two-dozen critics and experts on four different panels judge the best performances of the year in cabaret, comedy and jazz. As the event press release suggests "It's simply bang, bang, bang entertainment from the greatest entertainers in the world (they're the best in New York, so naturally, they are the best in the world), and they are introduced by a bevy of celebrities, themselves." Past presenters have included Liza Minnelli, Patti LuPone, F. Murray Abraham, Tony Danza, Robert Altman, and Sandy Duncan.

In a statement Nightlife Awards creator and producer Scott Siegel said, "I am deeply gratified that every year performers knock themselves out to come back to Town Hall to perform."

New York Arts critic Matthew Carey stated "(This is) an award well deserved in my opinion. Not only does Barb select fantastic repertoire and extremely good-looking accompanists but she can take you deeper inside a song than you knew was possible."

Following a host of appearances in the Big Apple in recent years, this award further cements Barb's reputation Stateside and will inevitably pave the way for further visits.
