Cappella Nova celebrate their Silver Jubilee!
02 November 2007
Cappella Nova is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year. The group, whose recent release of recorded premieres of James MacMillan choral works, continues to be one of the most ambitious and significant vocal groups currently performing in the UK.
Cappella Nova has excelled in delivering the masterpieces of Byrd and Palestrina and in unearthing some of Scotland's hidden musical treasures. However, as their new album "Tenebrae" demonstrates, the group are equally dedicated to exposing the works of contemporary composers.
Cappella Nova and James MacMillan first collaborated on the composer's significant work "The Seven Last Words from the Cross", which the group premiered in 1994. As Kenneth Walton states an article in The Scotsman it "remains one of his most powerful religious works". The success of this performance has inspired further collaborations, some of which appear in this recording.
"The seven Strathclyde Motets possess genuine and effortless beauty" states Walton. "Tenebrae" combines these previously mentioned motets with the composer's reworking of his early composition, Missa Brevis, and the Strathclyde Motets, a work written especially for Cappella Nova.
For a truly wonderful choral encounter why not attend one of Cappella Nova's concerts and experience the "sinuous refinement and persuasive musicality" of one of Scotland's most esteemed vocal groups. For more information please see Cappella Nova's tour dates.
