This DG originals recording of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite deserves all the praise it has received over the years. The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under a 27 year old Lorin Maazel deliver a crisp performance. The Falla pieces featuring the superb mezzo-soprano Grace Bumbry are also extremely well played. This recording marked the beginning of the illustrious career that Maazel was about to embark on as this was the stand out performance which catapulted him to stardom.
Drawn from the first of Stravinsky's three Diaghilev ballets, the Firebird Suite is given here in the composer's 1919 version. Falla's El Amor Brujo is distinctively Andalusian in character with moments of remarkable beauty and originality; it includes the celebrated 'Ritual Fire Dance', 'Will-o'-the-Wisp' and the 'Dance of Terror'.
This DG Originals title has been remastered at 96kHz in 24-bit stereo from the original analogue mastertapes.
