Scottish Jazz Awards 2009
Carol Kidd made her triumphant return to music with the release of Dreamsville. A Linn Records artist since 1984, Kidd celebrates the 25 year relationship with a hand-picked selection of standards. After the studden death of her partner in 2003, Carol took a complete break from singing for a few years. However, she found therapy in writing the lyrics and penning two songs, co-written with guitarist Nigel Clark, which appear on the album - 'Do You Believe' and 'There Goes My Heart'. The album also features a delightful new version of her signature song 'When I Dream'.
Carol Kidd is renowned for her impeccable phrasing and delivery along with an innate ability to breathe fresh life into jazz standards. Dreamsville places a great singer, at the top of her form, back where she belongs - in the upper echelons of world class vocal jazz.

On walking into the Mixing Rooms recording studio in Glasgow, clutching a handful of songs that I had always wanted to record, I knew I had gathered the best musicians possible to make this a special recording. I had asked Graeme Duffin to produce this album for me and he did so with love and care.
We sailed though 'It Never Entered My Mind' - rehearse and take. While recording Paul Harrison's arrangement of 'It's Alright With Me', I laughed my way through the whole experience - it was so relaxed.
I would like to dedicate 'Happiness is a Thing Called Joe' to the late Humphrey Lyttelton who, on hearing me sing it, asked me to include the song in my recorded repertoire. 'A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square' is always requested during my concerts, so I would like to dedicate this song to so many of you.
We recorded the guitar and voice songs at Graeme Duffin and Sandy Jones' studio - The Foundry Music Lab. Among them, I co-wrote 'Do You Believe' and 'There Goes My Heart' with guitarist Nigel Clark.
'When I Dream' has become my signature song and, on this album, I have re-recorded it with my voice as it is today.
So, do what I do. Kick off your shoes, relax and I hope you enjoy my choice of songs, selected just for you.
Peace and Love,
