A virtuoso of the keys, Edgar Knecht, takes on declining teutonic folk, and breathes new life into it with jazz and world music influence, finding a sensational new approach to the seemingly lost tradition.

Edgar Knecht

The pianist and composer Edgar Knecht is one of Germany's best jazz musicians. Among award-winning solo programs he has written numerous pieces for theatre, flm and television.
profile & recordings >>

Equally adept at dreamy ballads, on-a-dime improvisations and spellbinding instrumental virtuosity, Knecht manages to add a descript vim that allows "Maria durch ein Dornwald ging" to become a ballad that really gets under your skin; "Es war ein König in Thule" to evolve into a virtuoso piece between Beethoven and Cuban salsa and "Froh zu sein bedarf es wenig" to be blessed with an African 6/8 vs. German 3/4 beat that revels in joyous celebration.

All this is even further enhanced by flawless production and the chance to hear it all in Studio Master quality, which just makes this album even more enticing. One of the jazz highlights of 2010.

Edgar Knecht - Piano and vocoder
