After the success of 'Nevermind', Nirvana were a little bit in shock. It was rumoured that the follow up was 'Nevermind' mark II and also that they would react to their success in the form of a more agressive album similar to 'Bleach'. The resulting 'In Utero' was probably something in between with enough choatic agression to satisfy their more punky followers yet very catchy and even mellow in places.

There is evidence of Kurt Kobain's excellent songwriting and added maturity on this record but it is obviously tinged with sadness knowing that the singers life was soon to be cut short. 'In Utero' has stood the test of time well since then and I dare say, it will still be very listenable after another 20 years.
