This album captures the energy and passion of 34 exceptional musicians; global Gypsy players from 6 countries who united and gathered in London for one reason only, to play homage to the Gypsy guitar genius Django Reinhardt and to honour his 100th birthday.

"This nine day festival of concerts and workshops will commemorate the genius of this 20th Century musical icon by featuring a host of some of Europe's finest Gypsy Swing/jazz performers, some of whom have never played in the UK. The production of a commemorative CD of Festival highlights is supported by the European Commission Representation in the UK as part of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Isolation, in recognition of the Festival's contribution to promoting the culture of the Romani people, Europe's oldest minority group and still one of its most marginalised." THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION REPRESENTATION IN THE UK

"This triple-CD set contains some truly astounding music. The sheer virtuosity often beggars belief, but it's the inventiveness and creative abandon in the playing of such masters of the genre as Lollo Meier and Sébastien Giniaux, and especially the multi-talented Tcha Limberger, that make these performances truly remarkable. I can't say "unbelievable", because I was there when some were recorded - at London's Le QuecumBar, back in January, at the festival to celebrate Django Reinhardt's centenary - and this was exactly how it came across at the time." The Observer (Dave Gelly)

"This was music straight from the soul, played in the perfect setting - one of London's hidden gems" The Evening Standard (Dave Broughton)

"Sunday night had been enjoyable that I went back, more or less at random, on Tuesday night and caught a set by one of the most astonishing musicians I have heard in ages. Singing while playing the guitar is one thing, and Tcha Limberger does it exquisitely, but singing while improvising a countermelody on the violin is something else again. He is blind, speaks five (or was it six?) languages and seems to be made entirely out of music. I doubt if a more absorbing performance took place that night anywhere in London or, indeed, anywhere at all." The Observer (Dave Gelly)

"The first serious UK attempt to celebrate his legacy. The nine-day festival promises not just the best of Django, but the best Gypsy guitarists playing today." The Guardian (Garth Cartwright)

"My advice to hardcore Reinhardt aficionados would be to hunt down a ticket for the centenary gigs at London's Gypsy swing venue, Le QuecumBar, where Lollo Meier will be helping to blow out the candles." The Times (Clive Davis)

"Le QuecumBar plays host to the UK's largest ever gathering of Gypsy jazz guitarists for the International Gypsy Swing Guitar Festival. ... the magic of performances at Le QuecumBar is in their intimate setting, with musicians playing acoustically to an audience of no more than 70. Supported by the Arts Council England, performers appearing include Django's grandson David Reinhardt, Belgium's Tcha Limberger Trio and Lollo Meier from Holland." Songlines

"When a festival of Django Reinhardt-inspired Gypsy guitar swing goes Europe-wide, like the impending eight-day extravaganza at Battersea's QuecumBar ... it's apparent what a much-loved and much-practised art this seven-decade-old genre remains." The Guardian (John Fordham)

"This music has deep roots, but in its soulfulness, in the versatility of its imagination and in its sheer exuberance, the ability of Gypsy swing/jazz to charm and seduce audiences remains as powerful as ever. Prepare to be enchanted! " JazzPreview.com

"The biggest collection of Gypsy Swing talent in the UK ever." LondonNet.co.uk

"Instrumentalists play everything ... guitars and violins, whilst vocalists sing everything from haunting tunes to jaunty songs... Go to Le QuecumBar for the music and the atmosphere. Go to be transported back in time to a France of old." ViewLondon.com
