Scottish Ensemble - Tavener: Tears of the Angels - The Inverness Courier

It has been a memorable year for Scotland's smallest orchestra, The Scottish Ensemble.

Their latest recording "Tears of the Angels", an intensely moving evocation of the tragedy of war, was universally hailed by critics and several have beaten the Courier to the punch in naming it as one of their Records of the Year. The record features two other works by the contemporary English composer John Tavener - "Depart in Peace", a hybrid version of the funeral anthem Nunc Dimittis sung with great feeling and skill by soprano Patricia Rozario, and "My Gaze Is Ever Upon You", a meditation for solo violin and tape which is a triumph for the ensemble's gifted leader Clio Gould.
