scottish Ensemble - Tavener: Tears of the Angels - Denver Rocky mountain News

18 April 1999
Denver Rocky Mountain News

A possible trend for the new age is a return to "beautiful" music, witnessed here and in other recent compositions. The English composer follows the path of Gorecki and Paert, creating slow-moving pieces of heavenly serenity. in Tears, as well as... Depart in Peace and My Gaze Is Ever Upon You, violinist Clio Gould plays with string ensembles and (in the latter) herself via tape. Pleasant stuff, unless you care for something uptempo.
