Scottish Ensemble - Shostakovich - Yorkshire Post

Shostakovich:Chamber Symphony in C minor. Piano Concerto No. 1. Two pieces for String Octet. Sophia Rahman (piano), john Wallace (trumpet), Clio Gould (director), Scottish Ensemble.

Shostakovich's Two pieces for String Octet. With only twelve strin players, the Scottish Ensemble here generate a powerful performance of the Chamber Symphony, and provide a sharply etched accompaniment for the Piano Concerto. Rahman's tempos are a shade cautious, but they allow clarity of articulation.
