Gottlieb Wallisch - Mozart in Vienna - Classic FM Magazine

Wallisch's programme is a well-varied selection of works composed during the last 10 years of Mozart's life (1781-1791).  It is wisely presented not in chronological order and includes the remarkable quasi-improvisation that is the Fantasy in D minor and the Rondo in A minor, ‘full of melancholy, poetry and confession' as it aptly described in the booklet.  This is the kind of Mozart playing to put a spring in your step, superbly recorded, deftly executed with a disarming and unaffected simplicity, ending with the jolly and rarely heard 10 variations on an aria from Gluck's forgotten opera The Pilgrimme von Mekka.
