Martin Taylor - Artistry - InTune International

From the growing number of SACDs on release there is much to recommend Linn Records' reissue of two albums by the jazz virtuoso guitarist and composer, Martin Taylor who commenced his recording career in 1978. Album collaborations with Stephane Grapelli, Nelson Riddle, Michel Legrand, Yehudi Menuhin and Peggy Lee and prominent musical meetings with Liza Minelli, Bryn Terfel and other notable contemporary musicians have added to his popularity. Artistry (AKD 235), was Martin's initial Linn solo album of 1993 which enabled him to gently ease into an effective mix of standards and contemporary songs, with Polka Dots And Moonbeams, Georgia On My Mind and Gentle Rain amongst the choices. Having been initially inspired by the genius of Django Reinhardt, it's only natural that martin should enter the Spirit Of Django (AKD 237) for a jazzy Night And Day, Nuages and Swing 42, with Johnny And Mary recognisable from its use as the theme to the Renault "Nichole-Papa" television commercial. Back-up assistance is provided by Alec Dankworth and Jack Emblow to name but two.
