Fantasia - Martin - The Scotsman

The extended presence of the clarinet often grates on the nervous system. But there's hardly a moment in this youthful disc by the young Spanish duo - clarinettist Maximiliano Martin and pianist Inocencio Negrin - when the temptation to switch off hits you.

Martin's masterful combination of liquid tone and dazzlingly articulate virtuosity are compelling in Debussy's eloquent Premiere Rapsodie. Inoffensive Spanish numbers muster affection, too, in the duo's sensitive hands.
