'I am very, very happy with this award' says Yan Pascal Tortelier. 'It was the first time I worked with Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, and there was a real chemistry there. We worked incredibly closely in terms of rapport, and we discovered that we shared a teacher, the legendary Pierre Sancan, so we agreed totally on the interpretation'. Tortelier also relished the collaboration with the BBC Symphony Orchestra for these luminous performances: 'They play French music so beautifully, because they love it, and know how to be flexible.' Having worked 'with the red light' for many years with the BBC Philharmonic, he had a two year break from recording, but was ready to go back: 'I felt refreshed, re-energised, and as my father also used to say, take things on the faster side, you need extra life for recording!'
