Aliens - Luna - The Scotsman

CALLING occupants... The Aliens, comprising former Beta Band members John Maclean, Robin Jones and Gordon "Lone Pigeon" Anderson, have peacefully floated off to the far reaches on their trippy second album, mostly ditching the sunshine pop tunes in favour of lengthy psych-prog odysseys such as Billy Jack, with oblique lyrical references to fragile or altered mental states. Happily divorced from the sounds emitted by most of their contemporaries, these astral voyagers prefer to reference the mighty Pink Floyd, whether brazenly pastiching Syd Barrett on Smoggy Bog or recalling the Dark Side Of The Moon era on the languorous Dove Returning. Far-out and fabulous.
