Baroque Recorder Concertos - Pamela Thorby - The Scotsman

07 May 2004
The Scotsman
Kenneth Walton

Early music specialists the trio Sonnerie and director Monica Huggett are well know in these parts through their appearances at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. They are joined in this collection of recorder concertos by the virtuosity of soloist Pamela Thorby. A deliciously variable spread of music by sharp-shooting baroque concerto ace Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann, and the refined Guiseppe Sammartini shows the recently maligned instrument in its most exquisite light.
