Carol Kidd is a singer who kicks off her high heels onstage and pads a distinctive path through the Great American Songbook. Sinatra was an admirer, so there is a certain symmetry to her collaboration with one of the old man's favourite orchestral arrangers. At times, the lavish strings and Kidd's reticence can be too emollient, but the treatment of I Get Along Without You Very Well is immaculate.
