Carol Kidd - Dreamsville - Singer's Singer

12 November 2009
Singer's Singer - In Tune International
Dan Singer

Only half of this wonderful, unique dozen-song CD will be covered here because there's so much. Carol starts off with one of the most beautiful arrangements you will ever hear of Rodgers and Hart's 'It Never Entered My Mind'. It is so intoxicating. Hearing 'A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square' swung tore me apart. What a fine original rendition. Ms. Kidd gently sang Berlin's 'How Deep Is The Ocean' with perfection. It was so soft and gentle. Exquisite was her next song, the Gershwins' 'How Long Has This Been Going On'. It was as soft as velvet. Carol swings 'Can't We Be Friends' (Rodgers/Hart) to the hilt. It's a jubilant filled memorable vocal. Finally there's the title song by Henry Mancini from the 1958 TV series 'Peter Gunn' (Livingston/Evans) with some of the most amazingly romantic lyrics ever written. Ms. Kidd's vocal stands alone as one of the finest I have ever heard. This is a near perfect CD.
