Das schönste Mozart-"Requiem" kommt aus Schottland

In einer Konkurrenz aktueller Aufnahmen behauptet sich die Produktion von John Butt gegen Amsterdam und München.

Etliche Geheimnistücher haben sich über den Torso im Laufe der Jahrhunderte gelegt. Bis zum Kern aber ist niemand vorgedrungen. Mozarts "Requiem" blieb unvollendet. Dennoch gibt es genug Versuche einer Komplettierung.

An dieser Stelle kommt eine dritte Aufnahme, die Überraschung, ins Spiel. Nein, hier läuft nicht alles rund. Die Solisten mühen sich, um an das Niveau der beiden anderen Produktionen heranzureichen, auch der Chor darf kleinere Intonationstrübungen für sich verbuchen - aber das zählt nicht. Denn der Ansatz, den John Butt und das schottische Dunedin Consort verfolgen, stellt München und Amsterdam in den Schatten (Linn/Naxos).

Die Entschlossenheit, dieses Werk des späten Mozart als etwas kompromisslos Großes abzubilden, die Verbindung aus Wucht und Transparenz, die genau getimten weit geschwungenen Bögen - all das ist nicht so prall revolutionär wie beim griechischen Wahl-Russen Teodor Currentzis, nicht so ausgedünnt wie bei den streng Historisierenden, aber es ist beharrlich, berührend, beeindruckend. John Butt bringt das Unmittelbare dieser Musik, ihre Frostigkeit und ihren Trost detailnah zum Ausdruck.

Ein bemerkenswerter schottischer Außenseitersieg im Dreiervergleich.
