Dunedin Consort - Mozart: Requiem - The Sunday Times

Using David Black's new edition of Süssmayr's familiar completion of Mozart's swan song, Butt suggests a "chamber" Requiem: 16 singers in total, of whom four (Joanne Lunn, Rowan Hellier, Thomas Hobbs, Matthew Brook) are also the soloists. They sound too "English choral tradition" for my taste. Still, Butt gets drama aplenty in the Dies irae, Rex tremendae and Confutatis, and includes two fascinating bonuses: an early Misericordias in D minor (the Requiem's key) and a reconstruction of music for Mozart's Requiem Mass.
