With a song in my heart - Gill Manly - The Herald

Hot on the heels of the return to recording by our own Carol Kidd (for the same label) here is the first disc in a decade from the singer who inspired a 16-year old Claire Martin. Manly retired at the end of the nineties after a career in musical theatre had developed into one with the top names in British jazz. Her spiritual journey led her to Tibet, where she sang for the Dalai Lama, but now she is back home hosting regular gigs in London, and has been enticed back into the studio. Guy Barker is the trumpet foil here, on a set of songs associated with Ella Fitzgerald. You'd have to be good to pull that concept off, and Gill Manly sure is.
