Giuseppe Tartini - Palladians - Financial Times

"The Devil's Trill" is one of the most remarkable sonatas in the baroque repertoire: it begins with a Larghetto, simultaneously soothing and scorching, that makes you realise Tartini (1692-1770) was as much concerned with expressivity as virtuosity. The other Tartini sonatas on this disc, "Didone abbandonata" and "Pastorale", have just as many memorable moments. The Palladians summon a bewitching blend of period taste and musical eloquence.
