Ingrid Fliter - Scottish Chamber Orchestra - Chopin: Piano Concertos - The Australian Telegraph (Live Review)

Her reading of the Chopin concerto was commanding and authoritative from the dramatic introductory chords of the maestoso opening movement. The slow middle movement is Chopin at his most lyrical and poignant, written when he fell in love with Constantia Gladkowska.

Fliter brought out the lovely singing qualities, though her occasional stamp on and off the pedal made for some unscored percussion effects.

This work is often criticised for its unexciting orchestral writing, but it does give a chance for the woodwinds to shine through, especially Matthew Wilkie's bassoon in the larghetto.
