Katherine Bryan - Katherine Bryan plays Flute Concertos by Christopher Rouse and Jacques Ibert - Daily Telegraph

With Debussy's Syrinx and Frank Martin's Ballade as winningly expressive fillers, Katherine Bryan, principal flautist of the RSNO, steps out from the body of the orchestra to give these ear-catching performances of the Ibert concerto from 1933 and Christopher Rouse's of 1993. Her appealingly liquid timbre, fluency and pearly articulacy in music that can tax any flautist's nimbleness are allied to a lovely sense of lyrical line and nuance. The RSNO and Jac van Steen are with her all the way, both in shapeliness of phrasing and in quick repartee.
