Shock! - Gareth Williams Power Trio - The Independent

03 April 2009
The Independent
Tim Cumming
4 Stars

Gareth Williams's new offering kicks off with scuzzy, Fender Rhodes riffing on "A Welshman in New York" before the Power Trio wreak sonic attack on the title track. John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" is set to acoustic piano, while the dynamic between two keyboards propels the album with the help from Lawrence Cottle on bass and the drummer Ian Thomas. The three simmer dangerously, but they also step back for a ballad to Welsh war poets.
