Mozart Colloredo Serenade & Divertimento - SCO & Alexander Janiczek - The Scotsman

Ever at home with the Mozart sound, the SCO has another classical hit on its hands with this sunny pairing of Mozart's Colloredo Serenade K203 and the Divertimento K251. Former SCO leader Alexander Janiczek directs both, gleaning from his fellow players a pertinent mix of energy and lyrical warmth. Janiczek's presence is itself pertinent, given both works combine fully fledged symphonic movements with showy concerto elements, even a complete in-built violin concerto in the case of K203. Janiczek provides his own cadenzas, which are stylishly simple. Part of the joy of these is the way the SCO injects its natural charm and glistening polish into performances that almost seem to play themselves. No pretensions; just the simple delight of exquisite music.
