Mozart Symphonies - SCO & Sir Charles Mackerras - Metro

08 February 2008
Metro
Warwick Thompson

There's sophistication of a more profound kind in a shining new performance of Mozart: Symphonies 38-41 played by the superb Scottish Chamber Orchestra and conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras. Here is a lifetime's experience of Mozart distilled into performances which combine playfulness with solidity, but always with a sense of unforced ease. The textures are clear as spring water, and the playing excellent. Pure delight.
