Internationally known as the founder-director of the ensemble Les Talens Lyriques and as a harpsichordist, the musician and conductor Christophe Rousset is inspired by a passion for opera and for the rediscovery of European musical patrimony.

    Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques have been invited to appear throughout Europe: at the Opéra National de Paris, Opéra Comique, Dutch National Opera, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra de Lausanne, Teatro Real de Madrid, Theater an der Wien, Vienna Staatsoper, Opéra Royal de Versailles, La Monnaie and Bozar in Brussels, Wigmore Hall and the Barbican Centre in London, Their world tours have taken them from New Zealand to Mexico, the USA and Canada.

    Christophe Rousset also pursues a parallel concert and recording career as a solo harpsichordist and chamber musician, performing on some of the finest historic instruments. His recordings of works for harpsichord by Louis and François Couperin, Rameau, D’Anglebert, Royer, Duphly, Forqueray, Balbastre, Scarlatti, and his many recordings dedicated to J. S. Bach, are considered as benchmarks.

    Teaching activity is of enormous importance to him: he organises and directs masterclasses and courses at the CNSMDP Paris, the Académie d’Ambronay, Fondation Royaumont, Ghent Opera Studio, OFJ Baroque, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Amici della Musica in Florence, and the Britten-Pears Orchestra. Alongside the musicians of Les Talens Lyriques he is enthusiastically involved in a project to introduce music-making to secondary schoolchildren in Paris and the Île-de-France.

    Christophe Rousset also pursues a career as guest conductor, at the Liceu Barcelona, San Carlo in Naples, La Scala in Milan, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Royal Opera House in London, Spanish National Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, etc.

    Christophe Rousset is a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, and Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite.
