Carol Kidd triumphs at the Scottish Jazz Awards

Carol Kidd has won the Best CD category at the 2009 Scottish Jazz Awards with her recording ‘Dreamsville'. The award, which was decided by public vote, was presented in a ceremony which took place at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow on the 22nd June. Carol, who also performed at the ceremony, was presented with the award by Jim Gilchrist. Other successes of the evening included Tommy Smith and Ryan Quigley who won the woodwind and brass awards respectively. Both Tommy and Ryan appear on the recently-released ‘Lyn's Une' by Alyn Cosker of which The Guardian recently stated: "'s a testament to the world-class prowess of the participants".

It's been a busy time for the Scottish Jazz singer - on the 21st June Carol joined Claire Teal, Laurie Holloway and Todd Gordon in a celebration of Johnny Mercer. The Johnny Mercer Centenary Concert was held in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and was presented by Sir Michael Parkinson who said of Carol's performance "You would have to travel a long way to hear better jazz singing than that". Praise indeed!
