Claire Martin Nominated For A 2021 Parliamentary Jazz Award
Will 'The First Lady of British Jazz' win the accolade of 'Jazz Vocalist of the Year'?
We have been singing the praises of the multitude of vocal talent in the UK Jazz scene for many years, so it came as no surprise to find that three, out of only four UK Jazz vocalists named in the list 1001 Best Albums in the latest ‘Penguin Guide to Jazz', are Linn artists.
Tina May's debut album on Linn ‘I'll Take Romance' was picked out as a not-to-be-missed album in the guide, published in November 2010. Albums from Linn's own Ian Shaw and Claire Martin were also selected, alongside Norma Winstone. The Arts Desk described them as "a very select group of UK singers."
Tina, Ian and Claire's contributions sit alongside those by Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker.
