Will 'The First Lady of British Jazz' win the accolade of 'Jazz Vocalist of the Year'?
New York State of Mind
Ahead of the release of her fifteenth album with Linn, Claire Martin talks to Jazzwise's Peter Quinn about recording her greatly-anticipated album of standards and working with an all-American quartet. "I've never sung with anyone who plays piano like that, ever. It was like singing on a cloud" she says of working with the great Kenny Barron. In addition Claire's joined by Peter and Kenny Washington and Steve Wilson. "I was very in awe of them all."
Released on the 30th April, Too Much in Love to Care is completely dedicated to the Great American Songbook. "People have been waiting for me to do this for at least 10 years" Claire says "...I'd been resisting because I thought all the other great singers had done it brilliantly and there was no point in me having a crack at it. But I thought, sod it, it's just my interpretation and the songs are great."
