In The Studio: William Carter

A founding member of the acclaimed Palladian Ensemble, lutenist William Carter is in the studio this week to record music by Esaias Reusner.

Scheduled for release in 2022, this recording will introduce you to Reusner [1636-79], whose publication the ‘Delitae Testudinis’ [Delights of the Lute] is outstanding, not just for its exceptional quality, but also because it contains the very first dance suites published in Europe. This sequence of dances [Allemande, Courant, Sarabande, Gigue] was used as a form by virtually every later composer of the baroque period and particularly by Bach and Handel.

Next year marks five years since the releases of Carter's Bach Reimagines Bach, and its popularity ensures that many fans will already be looking forward to this recording.
