Arnie Somogyi's Ambulance - Accident and Insurgency - The Herald

One of the London jazz scene's most prominent double bassists, Arnie Somogyi, doesn't so much lead Ambulance as encourage it to happen, sharing composition credits and allowing the music to develop. spontaneously. Joined by former Herbie Hancock and Art Blakey trumpeter Eddie Henderson, his musicians respond with a clear sense of direction, strong melodies and focused improvising. Henderson glows on the ballad Tumbledown but this is no Brits-with-US-guest session and aside from minor instances of sampling, it's quality small group acoustic jazz that on the closing, urgent Broadside especially fits the name.
