Bach Mass in B Minor - Dunedin Consort - Classic FM Magazine

With its recording of the first, fully scholarly edition of the B minor Mass as Bach left it upon his death, the Dunedin Consort have notched up yet another studious first.  Even so, the differences aren't particularly fundamental, so enjoyment depends more on how you like your Bach.  Butt employs one-voice-per-part throughout, but even those who prefer multi-voiced choruses will concede that, with these soloists' razor-sharp articulation and deep expression. The awe-inspiring intricacy of Bach's part-writing has been wonderfully magnified.  However, in some of the larger choruses, the vocalists occasionally struggle to rise about the full weight of the brass.
