Bach: Volume Four - Nigel North - Yorkshire Post

The irony of the title is that Bach devoted little time to the lute, in spite of its important role in 18th century Germany. That, however, has not deterred Nigel North. Following the composer's own practise of reworking his existing pieces for the instrument, North is now on the fourth volume of his own transcriptions.

The results are compelling, utterly musical, and to any student of Bach articulation, whether on strings or keyboard, revelatory. This disc brings arrangements of the third, fifth and sixth Suites for Solo Cello in rythmic performance of remarkable variety of texture.
