Ian Bruce - Alloway Tales - The Observer

Scottish singer songwriter Ian Bruce's interpretation of the songs of poet Robert Burns on Alloway Tales is an offshoot of Linn's superb 12 volume complete songs of Scotland's national poet, currently at the half way stage. Bruce's obvious affection and understanding of Burns is the key to a lovely simple set which also features a number of Scotland's finest folk exponents. From jigs (Galloway Tam), to reels (O'Mally's Mack), to sprightly instrumental (The Soldiers Return), Alloway tales is an album to warm the cockles of the heart.
