Liane Carroll - Seaside - The Sunday Times

It's more than candyfloss. Much more. The title number, written by the irrepressible Joe Stilgoe, has to be one of the finest new songs of the year, the bittersweet lyrics burnished by Evan Jolly's brass-band arrangement. Carroll, a soulful singer-pianist and proud resident of once unfashionable Hastings, even adds a sombre torch-song take on that Morecambe & Wise anthem Bring Me Sunshine. Nobody's Fault but Mine is bold and bluesy, while she signs off with a deeply affecting treatment of For Those in Peril on the Sea.
