Ori & Omri Epstein - Beethoven: Complete Works for Piano & Cello - American Record Guide

Beethoven’s five cello sonatas and three sets of variations are the classics of our repertoire. They have been recorded by everyone who counts. They are played here by two brothers from Israel, one in his late 20s, the other in his early 30s. They do a really fine job with all of this music. They play with love, sensitive phrasing, and fine fingers. They observe all the repeats, and the balance between instruments and an unusually varied volume on the recording serve to hold our attention. Yes, you’ll find me recommending many others in the Cello Overview (March/April 2009), but these are among the best I have heard.
